Kurzbeschreibung: This tender refers to a post-harvest loss (PHL) reduction technology based on metal silos for food grains at household level. The technology was successfully developed and disseminated in Central America with the support of SDC, and is planned to be replicated in Tanzania. PLH are defined as grain lost due to fungus, bird, rodent and insect attacks, and include weight losses and damaged grains not recoverable for human consumption. For SDC, the prevention of PHL losses has been included in its Swiss Cooperation Strategy Tanzania 2011-2014. The Swiss contribution will aim at improving rural household livelihoods by targeting improved access to local, regional and international markets, and better storage methods of grain products to reduce the vulnerability of farmers, both men and women, to climate and price changes. The proposed PHL prevention programme is expected to be complementary to the SDC supported Rural Livelihood Development Programme (RLDP), which also operates in the PHL prevention programme area, the Central Corridor of Tanzania.
